Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, directors of The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, have been announced as directors for upcoming Star Wars anthology film.
The duo is slated to direct a stand-alone film that will focus on a young Han Solo. The film, to be written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, is set for a May 2018 release. The duo had this to say about the project:
This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.
“Fan casting” has already begun, however with no official word on when this story takes place, it’s hard to guess how old the character will be in the film. So for now, sit tight, and maybe re-watch the Episode VII trailer a few dozen more times.
It should be noted, as well, that this film is NOT the same project with which Josh Trank was formerly involved. That film, whatever it may be, is still without a director. Perhaps we will hear more on this and other projects at SDCC this week.
