Kickstarter continues to prove it’s capable of bringing back the dead. Joel Hodgson and the folks behind Mystery Science Theater 3000 have launched a Kickstarter to bring the show back. They’re asking for a hefty $2 million, but it seems like such a small price to pay for the beloved cult classic.
Launched in 1988 and cancelled in 1999, MST3k followed the adventures of the inhabitants of the Satellite of Love, comprised of a human and two robots Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot, as they were forced to watch horrible movies as part of a nefarious scientific experiment. Bringing the art of “riffing” movies to the masses, MST3k continued on in the form of Rifftrax after the show was cancelled. These downloadable tracks feature previous cast members and their guests riffing on movies, both new and old, and helped introduce a new generation to the world of MST3k.
During its airtime, the show underwent a few casting changes, including swapping out series lead Joel Hodgson himself with Mike Nelson. The show intends on shaking up the cast again this time around, with room for previous cast members to cameo and provide guest riffs. You can back the Kickstarter here.
Remember to keep circulating the tapes and the URLs. Complete episodes of the original series are around on the internet. You can watch one of the best right here!
