Well, the director of District 9 and Chappie fame recently released some more concept art for the project that will feature Sigourney Weaver reprising her role as Ellen Ripley.
We’ll have to trust his caption “#alien going very well. Love this project[.]” while we wait for any more official news on the project.
The newest film will reportedly ignore David Fincher’s misfire Alien 3 and instead be a direct sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens. Personally, I think Alien 3 has quite a bit of merit that it doesn’t get credit for, especially the “Assembly Cut” version. While I don’t agree with all of the choices, it will be refreshing to see a new take on the franchise which has squandered since the much reviled Alien: Resurrection.
There’s still no official word on whether or not Michael Biehn will return to play Corporal Hicks or if we’ll see a return of Newt, but it’s hard to imagine a retcon like this where they would be written out again like they were in Alien 3. It certainly looks like the droopy-eyed fellow next to Ripley could be him. He has the frown to match.
Also in the concept art is a
Spartan super-soldier marine with a South Korean patch on his shoulder. There’s no word if this will be an Alien and StarCraft crossover, but we know some of you just jumped at the thought.
